In 2009, more than 1,400 students who had achieved senior status participated in graduation ceremonies for the Sioux Falls Public Schools. The Class of 2009 included 340 Regents Scholars recognized by the South Dakota Department of education, 206 members of the National Honor Society, 66 Advanced Placement Scholars recognized by the College board and 14 National Merit Semifinalists.     

    In addition, all three Sioux Falls public high schools (Lincoln, Roosevelt and Washington) were included on Newsweek magazine's "America's best High School" list, which ranked the nation's top 1,300 schools based largely on the number of students taking Advanced Placement tests. Sioux Falls students scored on average of 23.0 on the ACT, compared to the state average of 22.0 and the national average of21.1.

    The District uses 21st Century teaching methods to help students learn the skills of problem solving, collaborating, communicating, creating and innovating, and finding and evaluating information. South Dakota has the distinction of being the most wired state in the nation for grades K-12. The state was also ranked first nationally for three years by the Center for Digital Government's Digital State Survey. Sioux Falls Public Schools classrooms are connected by high-speed communications to all other schools, universities and the Internet. At the middle and high school level, video conferencing capabilities exist for e-learning opportunities.
